Event Summary

We start the event at 9am at Lake William Hovell, this will give time to travel from Melbourne or enjoy a leisurely start to the day. The 15km run starts near the boat ramp and follows the rugged 4WD track along side the lake and then the King river into the Alpine National Park, returning via the same route. The 12km kayak on Lake William Hovell is incredibly picturesque surrounded by mountains with only your fellow kayakers on the lake. The 39km road ride takes you along the King river down from the lake, you turn left at Cheshunt, left at Whitfield and then climb up towards Powers Lookout. To finish you have a 3.6km run on the gravel track for a magical view of the mighty King Valley and the spoils of conquering the Valley.

The Presentations will be held at the finish line at Powers lookout. Now the event is on Sunday we will do a rolling presentation from 2pm so people can drive home.

Training for the King Valley Challenge should involve regular sessions in the discipline you intend to compete in, if you intend to race solo, I guess that means you'll be busy! The King Valley Challenge is designed to be an entry level Multi-Sport challenge, it is achieveable with regular training. If you are in Melbourne we suggest you get involved with the Vigor coaching training groups . If you are not Melbourne based get involved with your local club or contact the Race Director Liam Delany for assistance with your training program.

The Race

Registration opens at 8am and closes at 8:45am, by 8:50am you should have all your equipment ready in the boat and bike transitions and be lining up for a race briefing before a 9am start.

The winning teams and super fast solo competitors take around 3 and a half hours to complete the course, finishing at around 12:30pm. The event cut off is 6hrs, this allows plenty of time to complete the course, we recommend training to ensure you can do it. In the past people who haven’t made the 6hrs haven’t trained for the event, if you need help please contact the race director for assistance with your training.

Enjoy some food and drink at the finish as well as great views of the Valley you just raced through. Its a great place to have a post race briefing with all the friends you made along the way.

Presentations are now at the finish line from 2pm, we will have food and drink available. Remember to collect your bike from the final transition before you head home.

If you do have a support crew that can help a fellow competitor, please let the Race director know.

Given the start is a 20 minute drive from Whitfield please arrange to have all your belongings collected from the lake, if you need assistance with this please let the race director know prior to the event day.
