Vigor runs a social running session at Princes Park every Tuesday and at Collingwood Athletics track every Thursday evening from 6:30pm-7:30pm. The sessions cater for everyone and new runners are welcome to run the first three sessions free. We split into two groups with a faster and a slower group with a coach for each group, but will always warm up and down together.

Sunday 8am group runs are also organised each weekend from the Collingwood Athletics track to explore the nearby Yarra trails or we explore the trails in the surrounding State and National parks. To receive weekly email updates on training please join the Vigor Running email list.

You can join the Vigor Running Group by becoming a Vigor member. This gives you access to a year of coached running sessions and support for your goal events. It also gives you discounts at the Vigor Clinic and weekly e-newsletter of all things running.

The Running Session

Tuesdays we meet at 6:30pm at the SE corner of Princess Park near the big tree (it’s the closest corner to Melbourne Uni). We lock our bikes to the fence and there’s always a car to put bags in.

Thursdays we meet at the Collingwood Athletics Track on Heidelberg Rd. at 6:30pm, bags can be left in the club rooms. In winter we run on the track under lights, in summer we alternate between running on the track and running in the park nearby.

The Tuesday and Thursday sessions start with an easy group warm up jog, brief stretch and a few run throughs, then we move into some form of efforts with recovery catered to your ability (don’t worry the quicker runners do more!), an easy jog to cool down and solid stretch to finish in one hour.

Sunday we also meet at Collingwood Athletics Track at 8am (unless advised in weekly email) and we go for a long run. It can be as short or long as you like. Generally there’s a group aiming for 60 mins and a group aiming for 90 mins and longer leading up to the Melbourne Marathon.

We run all year no matter what the weather. Christmas break will always start from Christmas eve til the end of the second week in January. That means we start back on the 3rd Tuesday in January.

Run Technique

Liam takes 1-3 people out for 1 hour. The cost is $100 for 1, $50 each for 2 or more (Vigor members get a $20 discount if it’s a one on one). The session will focus on technique to improve speed and reduce the risk of injury. Drills and discussion will leave you plenty to work on to improve your running so you enjoy it more. Contact Liam to arrange a time.

Goal Events

Vigor Running has teamed up with Collingwood Athletics Club. Many Vigor members are also members of Collingwood which gives you access to a year of great value summer and winter events.

King Valley Challenge – The 15km run is the first leg of this multi-sport event and is a perfect challenge for everyone. Some call the run ‘undulating’ while others call it ‘hilly’. Join a team or have a go at the whole event solo.

Lake Eildon Challenge – The 21.1km run is the last leg of this multi-sport event. You run from Bonnie Doon to Mansfield along the rail trail. It’s a nice flat half marathon. Join a team and aim for a PB, or have a go solo!

The Melbourne Marathon is an excellent goal event, whether you choose the 10km, 21.1km or 42.2km you have to train to complete it. Vigor coaches a number of people aiming for these events so if you want help to get the best out of yourself, talk to us at the running group.

MizunoMizuno has joined forces with the Vigor Running, they are our shoe of choice. Feel free to discuss your footwear with Liam and he can point you in the right direction for a discount.
